Starting the blog

NotesSeattle, 47.6° N, 122.3° W

I have wanted a place to put things for a while: the software I build on the side, the trips we take, and the odd note that does not fit anywhere else. This is that place.

How it works

Each post is a Markdown file in a folder. A static site generator, Astro, turns the folder into plain HTML, and a script copies the result to an S3 bucket behind CloudFront. There is no server to keep running and nothing to log in to. Hosting costs about as much as a cup of coffee a year.

The interactive things, like the fish run animation, already run on their own servers. A post here just shows them in place, so the blog stays simple and the heavy work stays where it belongs.

What to expect

Three kinds of posts, each with its own section:

  • Projects, for software I have built and what it does.
  • Travel, starting with Chile.
  • Notes, for everything else.

Every post carries the coordinates of the place it is about. Click them for a map.
